PDP Goals Summary
Everyone has a core belief about their occupation and how to maximize their best practice and alter misconceptions in the workplace. I am so fond of teaching because, for me, it gives a meaning to my life. The essence of being an effective teacher lies in knowing what to do to improve yourself and foster pupils’ learning and being able to do it. So, as any successful human studying Education to be a teacher I want to focus, on the effective methods of teaching and learn about the best ways to deal with and overcome the obstacles.
Therefore, I collected all my teaching practice experience through four years and gather the best challenges that I had. The most professional skills each ambition person should have is planning . Thus, all teachers need to have some idea of how the lesson will facilitate the learning and how will set up a learning activity which effectively achieves the learning outcomes intended for each pupil (Kyriacou, 2007).
Consequently, I planned to create my own Professional Development Plan (PDP) goals for self-development in a continues progression and follow them in my current practicum and through next semester because an effective preparation and planning have a major positive impact on self and pupils. However, the lack of preparation shows that the pupils are not important for the teacher because if the learning was really important, the teacher would have prepared better.
what has been occupying my mind recently is the outcome of my goal not only for myself, but also for my country. When I graduate, get a job and work hard in teaching the new generation, I actually help them to become better members in the society and when they grow up and be in my age, they will be additional reasons for the development and prosperity of my beloved country .
For my professional development plan, I chose three goals to follow for this semester and see what I will expand and what I need to change in my teaching process. The goals were:
1- measure students understanding level through applying various types of summative and formative assessment. 2- Create materials to suit different learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic). To facilitate learning and focus on learning by doing. 3- Using positive reinforcement to manage student behavior in the classroom.
Each goal has a certain strategies and objectives that I wanted to achieve, with a specific teaching competency related to the goal which would help me to achieve my goals and from the three goals I came up with some effective method that changed my way of teaching and applying my lessons to the students.
measure students understanding level through applying various types of summative and formative assessment. The role of teacher is to assess students’ progress and to know to what extent student are getting English in sufficient way. Assessments help teachers to identify concepts that students are struggling to understand, skills they are having difficulty acquiring, or learning standards they have not yet achieved so that adjustments can be made to lessons, instructional techniques, and academic support (Dettmer,2004).
2- Create materials to suit different learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic )To facilitate learning and focus on learning by doing.
I created a suitable activity to assess me as a teacher to create an environment more suitable which everyone can learn, not just those who use teachers prepared style and for students to help pupil learn more effectively because brain structure is working different from person to person during learning(Willingham,2005). Some activities worked well and some of them didn’t worked effectively and had some misconceptions.
3- Using positive reinforcement to manage student behavior in the classroom.
In some semesters, I faced some challenges in dealing with students because of the gab in my classroom management skills. According to Skinner students could be encouraged to learn if there were some reinforcements . thus, I decided to focus more in student’s behavior to manage the class and improve my ways of teaching(Skinner,1948)
Connecting to managing learning competency, I used different equipment’s and strategies’ that helped students to challenge them becoming better into higher levels. In addition, I made
my own rules and routines building up into other teacher’s experiences that helped me move smoothly between one activities to another without losing students focus. Also, I used technology methods to communicate with student’s parent and students themselves to let them see their achievements and their developing process. Doing that made the children happy about their achievements especially when they knew that their parents watching their behaviors and learning outcomes.
